Did you know that even the author of Hebrews forgot where to find a passage of Scripture he had previously memorized? In this short episode, Josh encourages us to take a step back and consider why we put so much pressure on ourselves to memorize the exact chapter and verse number for every verse that we memorize. ✅ Verse & Chapter Numbers are NOT Inspired (full video): ua-cam.com/video/ukT67oNM...

I'm so disappointed. I had this video in my feeds for a long time, and I just had a chance to watch it. I've been trying to memorize verses, and having ADHD makes it pretty difficult for me. I'm a 42-year-old male, and you expect me to sit down and grab a glue stick, glitter, and colors to make time to create a scrapbook? I'm sure this is okay with the female audience, but I don't know what 42-year-old males will do this kind of stuff. The title is misleading.

QUESTION: i find it hard to read most days BUT, i was thinking of ordering " james earl jones reads the new testament" since his voice is awsome and i think i could really get into the bible because of that. Is this wrong? should i not do this and rather just read the bible instead? yes, i am lazy perhaps but is it not the same? please let me know sir. thank you, looking forward to your reply. ps. i pray every day talking to God and Christ ( they are the same) and trying to do good works although i know it is by faith in Jesus we are saved ultimatly.

Don't you think that the Holy Spirit knows the Bible? Get the Holy Spirit in your heart and it will talk to your mind all the time. Showing you other truths not in the bible. Don't get me wrong the only book I read is the Bible. Books bore me . Words come out of me rather than go into me .i demonstrate my love for the creator by being creative myself. My name is love his name is knowledge he knows to love I love to know. What does that mean ? All sorts of things I think.we are all so variable .We do not create or learn in the same way.. How do you create and learn. Nethertheless I will consider this method because I am being prompted by the Holy Spirit to know the Bible more. But I will, put my words on your heart is what I live by ....

That’s a somewhat dangerous game to play. I encourage you to internalize as much of the Bible as you can in order to discern what is the voice of the Holy Spirit and what isn’t. The Holy Spirit may know the Bible, but we’re not as good at knowing the voice of the Spirit.

I disagree, with love, it is their fault. Everyone is exactly as holy as they want to be. “Cheap grace” is the Axe Body Spray of anointing, & Neo-Corinthian is the true most popular denomination in 🇺🇸. Amusement has displaced purity, virtue. Return to the old ways. Preach the word in season or out. Tell them the truth, that they’re going to Hell. John did. Jesus did. Without repentance there is no remission of sin. Let it offend. God chooses Gideon’s soldiers, 300 can do the work of 30,000 if He is with us. Pray. Read. Pray until you can pray, read until you can read. He’s not going to hand you a stone when you pray for bread. Seek, ask, knock .. is He not saying be persistent? Redeem the time, the days are evil - you’ve gotta want it. Humble yourself. Count the cost. Straight is the gate, narrow is the way. Read your Bible or be damned. The devil & his angels are out-working God’s people in this perverse and adulterous generation. Pray to the Lord of the harvest & follow Him today, remember Lot’s wife & don’t look back. Hunger & thirst for righteousness & you will be filled, then refilled, then given more!! If your cell phone causes you to sin smash that wicked 📱 portal to hell into a 1000 pieces. Your soul is precious. And your neighbors’ should feel even more precious than yours. Be holy. Godspeed.

This is encouraging to me. I had memorized hundreds of individual verses, one at the time, and a few chapters. (BTW, don't run from God if you memorized verses, He is never silent...) It was a lot of very hard, time consuming work. Over time, many have fallen away. Most of the ones I still remembered, I did not have the references for. That was always my hardest part of memorization. A few years ago, I heard a preacher's daughter telling about her dad with Alzheimers who didn't know who she was, but could quote nearly any passage of the Bible with ease. The reason he gave is that he read the passages dozens of times every time he made a sermon. He would read it many times before making an outline, then as he studies each section and again as he studied each word study. I still mostly recall Isaiah 53 but I can only point out the references to 1, 6 and 12. Strangely enough, I'm just reorganizing myself to start memorizing again, and today, I was recommended your channel. You were interviewing Keith Ferrrin (I subscribed to him, too.) Because of the story of the dying preacher, I had already resolved to a similar plan. I set up Logos so I can read the book in one sitting everyday. For the first week, I would read background commentaries on the book and passages I was reading. The next week, it would be analyzing what the passages actually say, taking notes on what they don't say. The third week, I would include application commentaries. Finally, on the forth week, I am to outline a teaching plan through the book. "books" and "weeks" are relative to sizes and time requirements. My plan changed from trying to "memorize" to trying to "learn and understand" and anything I might memorize became a passive side effect of my learning. After all, even if I could not quote the whole book, the Lord could cause me to recall it whenever he wants to talk to me. In spite of this, I wondered how I might handle the verse breakdown. This has been bothering me, even though I tried to convince myself it was not important. Now, you, or maybe Paul?, gives me encouragement and comfort. Thank you Shabbat Shalom! Eze 26:3

And yet, interesting to note. In the first couple of centuries of church history, Christianity grew like wildfire. It is said that they “turned the world upside down”. In fact, it was probably the greatest and the fastest period of growth in the entire history of Christianity. But at that time, the Bible, as we know it, did not even exist. Christians, who were following Jesus did just fine (perhaps better) with no Bible. To say that God only speaks to us through the Bible and nowhere else, is nonsense.

Now you can talk with your phone AI and have it read to you. On Android, I say, "Hey Google, read John 3:16 to me in the LSB version." ChatGPT also has an app (though the free version limits to a few questions) that you can have memorize some details. For example, I told it to use a female voice when translating my wife's Chinese to English and a male voice when translating my English to Chinese. Now without saying anymore, my wife and I can go back and forth and it knows what to do.
